LHASKarnali provides an estimate of landslide hazard up to 1 day in advance. A collaborative effort between NASA Goddard Space Flight Center landslides team, ICIMOD, NDRRMA and several other national stakeholders, LHASKarnali was adapted from the Landslide Hazard Assessment for Situational Awareness version 2 incorporating High Impact Weather Assessment Toolkit (HIWAT) Forecast. This system was created as part of the NASA High Mountain Asia (HMA) program in close collaboration with the SERVIR Program. SERVIR is an initiative jointly undertaken by NASA and USAID.
SERVIR connects space to village by helping developing countries use satellite data to address challenges in food security, water resources, weather and climate, land use, and natural disasters. A partnership of NASA, USAID, and leading technical organizations, SERVIR develops innovative solutions to improve livelihoods and foster self-reliance in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
ICIMOD implements the SERVIR-HKH Initiative – one of five regional hubs of the SERVIR network – in its regional member countries, prioritizing activities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan.
